They/Us: Ritual of Resonance is an interactive performance that takes participants on an immersive, guided journey into a prehistoric sonic cave. It is a non-binary, x-feminist piece exploring identity and inclusiveness through listening and sounding. The work emerged from my ongoing research into rituals as a contemporary form of cultural performance and the selfless modes of experience they cultivate. Transcending narcissism, the ritual incorporates acceptance and enacted responsibility.

It plays on the Pan rituals of ancient Greece, known as 'rituals of resonance.' The inner state of offering - seen as a selfless expression and an intention-setting activity - is explored by offering sound and noise to the greater cause of equality.
The prototype of this ritual was built as a response to the HerNoise archive (See Archives and Special Collections Centre, UAL) and it took place in a space facilitated by CRiSAP.

The ritual included elements of group improvisation through and interactive system built in TouchDesigner and MAX/MSP.

Impulse responses from Crevice Cave of Pirunkirkko, Koli, Finland were kindly provided by Riitta Rainio, whose research publication can be found HERE.

// This ritual is an active process of meaning-making and transformation that is bound to develop into various forms, always building upon itself. The next 'edition' of this project was They/Us: Ritual Object //
